Torre del Mar is the coast of Velez-Malaga, a district barely four kilometres from the municipality's inland main town. Start with the numbers, because they mislead people. The price index treats Torre del Mar as its own area, and in July 2026 it was indexed at close to three quarters more per square metre than the last published figure for Velez-Malaga itself. The municipal series has gone quiet: there is no figure for June or July 2026, and its most recent month is May. Torre del Mar's own series runs monthly without a gap. Anyone quoting you the Velez-Malaga average is quoting the inland town, not this coast.
The district counted 21,472 residents at the start of 2023, the most recent figure the Andalusian statistical institute publishes for it, which makes it the municipality's second population centre after inland Velez. It is a working Spanish coastal town, not a resort strip. The municipal tourism office sits here, and the beach held a Blue Flag in 2026.
Within the district the index prices four areas: Paseo Maritimo de Levante, the dearest; Poniente-Faro, close behind on price but the slowest riser; Centro, which has risen fastest of the four; and Viña Malaga, much the cheapest. The Hospital de La Axarquia, the comarcal hospital for the province's eastern side, is in the same municipality.
